Taxi Transfers To and From Athens Airport

Athens International Airport is rated as the thirtieth busiest airport in Europe, and serves the ancient city of Athens. It is named after Eleftherios Venizelos, a Greek Statesman and a person who played an important role in the development of aviation in Greece, and has the official IATA code of ATH. The airport is located approximately 20 km to the east of central Athens, and can be accessed via a number of transportation services. There are also car rental companies at the airport for arriving passengers. The airport of ATH has many facilities for its passengers. To travel from the airport, taxi services are recommended, however, there are a number of public bus services available as well. Taxis are often preferred due to their more direct route of travel, since that a bus will only stop at certain locations. A passenger may request any destination by taxi, and will be taken to the doorstep of their business, residential home or other location. Since that a taxi provides such a personal service, they are more expensive than buses.

Passengers arriving at Athens International Airport will find taxis outside of the arrivals area, and outside of Exit 3, in a designated Taxi waiting area. They are within easy walking distance of the baggage claim hall, and all parts of the airport are accessible to passengers with disabilities. Special taxi services for those in wheelchairs may also be available, however, if a special vehicle is required an advanced reservation is recommended. If no reservation has been made, there may be a short wait while a suitable vehicle is sent to the airport. Usual taxi vehicles are available twenty-four hours a day, and do not require an early booking.

Taxis from the airport are metered vehicles, which means that the charges applicable per journey will depend on the distance traveled. The meter device within the vehicle will record the distance in kilometers, and the rate for the journey will be calculated accordingly. There may also be extra charges involved, for example, there is often an airport surcharge applicable, and a small charge for luggage items loaded. A minimum charge may also be in place.

Taxis hired later in the evening, or on Sundays and public holidays may be more expensive. Passengers can find out further details for taxi services at the information booths in the terminal, which also often have a list of the approximate taxi prices charged to popular destinations nearby, or the driver of the taxi can provide information. It is always recommended to agree on an average price before leaving the airport. Should a complaint arise, the passenger will need to contact the taxi company concerned, and provide the taxi vehicle number and possibly the name of the driver. It is also recommended to always ask for a receipt of payment. Many taxi companies nowadays will accept payments by credit cards.

Passengers arriving at Athens Airport should only take a taxi from the designated taxi area, as the companies found here have authorised permission to transport airport passengers. Under no circumstances should a passenger accept an offer for transport from within the arrivals area, as this offer may be from someone who is operating illegally from the airport. All legitimate taxis and their drivers are required to wait outside for passengers, and may not ‘find’ customers in the arrival halls.

If a more elegant form of transport is required, one of the Athens International Airport limousines is recommended. Limousines are provided by a number of service providers, and are found outside of Exit doors 3 and 4, at the inner curb-side of Arrivals.

The Athens International Airport taxis are also an excellent way to travel to the airport. They may be more expensive than buses, but are much quicker and convenient, and passengers arriving by taxi will save money as they will not need to pay for parking expenses.
